Christmas Family Day in Dubai: Formats That Work for Companies
By Humais Waqar, Marketing Head, Purrple Orryx Events · 4 Nov 2026 · 8 min read

Planning a corporate event? We plan and deliver family day events end to end.
For most companies in Dubai, the best Christmas family day is a four to five hour afternoon event in the first half of December, held at a hotel lawn, an outdoor venue or your own campus. Give it separate zones for toddlers, children and teenagers, a timed Santa visit with pre-labelled gifts, and a fully alcohol-free menu. Everything else on this page is detail: which format suits your guest count, which dates to avoid, and how to keep 200 or more people of all ages happy for an afternoon.

We plan and produce corporate family days across the UAE, and December is the month when the festive version is most requested. This guide is written for HR, internal communications and event managers who need to brief an agency or get internal sign-off quickly.
Which Christmas family day formats work best for companies in Dubai?
Five formats cover almost every brief we see. The right one depends on your guest count, how many young children are coming, and how much control you want over the space. The table below compares them. Guest counts include adults and children.
A practical shortcut: if more than a third of your guests are under six, choose a format with shade, seating and toilets close to the play areas. That usually means a hotel lawn or your own campus rather than a theme park.

| Format | Typical guest count | Best for | Lead time | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel or resort lawn and ballroom package | 100 to 400 | Mixed ages, need for indoor backup and on-site catering | 8 to 10 weeks | Hotel December calendars fill early, and decor rules vary by venue |
| Outdoor festive carnival with Santa's grotto | 150 to 500 or more | Large workforces wanting a full programme and branding | 10 to 12 weeks | Needs power, shade, toilets and approvals for structures and inflatables |
| Office or campus takeover | 50 to 250 | Fast turnaround and staff who live near the office | 4 to 6 weeks | Floor space, building management rules and noise limits |
| Theme park or attraction block booking | 100 to 1,000 | Older children and teenagers | 6 to 8 weeks | Less control over timing, harder to gather everyone for Santa or speeches |
| Beach resort or beach club day | 100 to 300 | Smaller teams and a relaxed format | 8 to 10 weeks | Cooler, windy evenings and closer supervision of children near water |
When should we hold a company Christmas family day in Dubai?
Aim for the window from roughly 5 to 14 December, and avoid the national holiday. In 2026, Eid Al Etihad gives both public and private sector staff two days off, Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December, under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024. Many families travel or plan their own outings around those days, so attendance drops.
- 25 December is a normal working day for the private sector in the UAE. The country has seven official public holidays, and Christmas is not one of them. A family day on Christmas Day itself would mean staff taking leave.
- The standard private sector weekend has been Saturday and Sunday since 2022. Weekend dates suit working parents, but they compete with the busiest social calendar of the year.
- School winter breaks usually begin in mid-December, and many expatriate families fly home soon after. Events in the third and fourth weeks of December often see attendance fall.
- If you are a government-linked organisation, check your own holiday schedule. Local governments can approve extra days off for their own departments and corporations, so your dates may differ from private sector clients'.
On timing within the day, a 2pm to 6pm or 3pm to 7pm slot works well. Children get daylight for outdoor play, and the grotto and festive lighting come into their own after sunset in the early evening. If most children are under five, consider a morning event that ends by lunch.
How far ahead should we book a Christmas family day?
Ten to twelve weeks is comfortable, and eight weeks is workable for most formats. Anything under six weeks narrows your choice of venues and suppliers. December is the peak month for Santa performers, inflatables, entertainers and outdoor venue dates. One Dubai children's venue that hosts corporate Christmas days says December weekends are its busiest dates of the year.
- Ten to twelve weeks out: confirm the date, budget owner, guest count band and format. Hold the venue.
- Eight weeks out: lock in Santa, entertainment and the grotto design. Send a save the date asking staff for the number and ages of their children.
- Five to six weeks out: agree the menu, the site plan and approvals for any outdoor build. Close RSVPs with children's ages so gifts can be ordered by age band.
- Two weeks out: finalise the run of show, wristband colours, Santa slots and the staffing plan per zone.
If you are reading this in November for a mid-December date, a campus takeover or a hotel package is still realistic. A large outdoor build with a custom grotto will be tight.
How do you run a family day for toddlers, children and teenagers at once?
Split the site by age, not by activity. One mixed play area for 200 guests ends with toddlers underfoot and teenagers on their phones by a wall. We plan three zones and an adult area.
- Under five: a soft play and craft area with seating for parents. Parents stay with their child, and the area is fenced or clearly marked with one entry point.
- Five to twelve: supervised games, a mini workshop such as cookie decorating or ornament making, inflatables, and a magician or roving characters. This group drives most of the energy of the day.
- Teenagers: give them something worth their time, such as a gaming zone, a DJ booth session, a photo moment they will actually share, or a challenge with real prizes.
- Adults: shaded seating near the food, a short welcome from leadership, and a view of the children's zones so parents can relax.
Santa needs the most planning. With around 200 guests you may have 80 to 100 children. At one to two minutes per family, an open queue runs well over an hour. We assign timed slots by wristband colour or team, keep each slot to about 15 minutes, and have gifts pre-labelled by name or age band and laid out in slot order. For bigger numbers, a second photo point with a festive set takes pressure off the grotto.
For safety, every child gets a wristband with a parent's mobile number. We set up a single clearly signed meeting point for lost children, staff each zone with a named lead, and control the site exits. Have trained first aiders on site, and keep an allergy list from the RSVPs.

How do we keep a Christmas family day inclusive for a multi-faith workforce?
Most Dubai workforces include many faiths and nationalities, and a family day should feel open to all of them. Simple choices make the difference.
- Name it with care. 'Festive Family Day' or 'Winter Family Day' keeps the Christmas look while signalling that everyone is welcome.
- Keep the theme seasonal rather than religious: lights, snow effects, gingerbread and winter colours, plus Santa for the children who want him.
- Run it alcohol-free. Families with young children rarely miss it, and it avoids any separate bar management. Offer festive mocktails, hot chocolate and karak stations instead.
- Make the catering halal by default, with vegetarian, vegan and allergen-labelled options. Serve children's food in child-sized portions at a low, separate counter so parents are not queueing twice.
- Choose music and entertainment that work for everyone. Carol singers performing popular winter songs, magicians, bubble shows and face painting tend to suit every family. See our entertainment services for the types of acts that suit a family audience.
What does an event company handle on a Christmas family day?
A full production covers the build, the programme and the people. When we run a festive family day, the scope usually includes:
- Concept and site plan: zone layout, guest flow, shade, toilets and accessibility.
- The grotto and decor: Santa's set, tree, photo points, entrance arch and company branding.
- Technical production: a small stage, sound for the host and performers, festive lighting for after dark, power and backup generators for outdoor sites, and an LED screen if you plan speeches or a slideshow.
- Programme: host, Santa, entertainers, children's activities, workshop materials, and gifts by age band.
- Catering coordination with the venue or outside caterers, including children's menus and dietary labelling.
- Approvals and safety: outdoor structures, inflatables and live entertainment typically need venue and authority sign-off, which we arrange with the venue. We also handle risk assessment, first aid, security and the lost-child procedure.
- Staffing, setup, breakdown and clean-up.
Weather in December is usually mild, but evenings at outdoor and beach sites can turn cool and breezy. We plan shade for the afternoon, some covered seating, and a wet weather or wind plan for any inflatables. FAQs
Is Christmas Day a public holiday for private sector staff in the UAE?
No. The UAE has seven official public holidays, and 25 December is not one of them, so it is a normal working day for the private sector. If you want the event to fall close to Christmas, choose a weekend or a weekday afternoon in early to mid-December instead.
Can Santa and a grotto come to our own office or venue?
Yes. A grotto can be built in a lobby, a canteen, a car park under shade or a hotel ballroom. We need the floor plan, the ceiling height, the power points and the building management rules. Indoor grottos for offices are usually compact sets with a photo point and a separate gift handout table.
Should a Christmas family day be on a weekday or the weekend?
Weekends suit working parents and school-age children, but they compete with the busiest social diary of the year and venues book up first. A weekday afternoon, treated as a paid company event, often gets higher attendance and easier venue availability. Avoid 2 and 3 December 2026 and the second half of December.
Can a Christmas family day work for several hundred staff and their families?
Yes. Beyond about 300 guests we add more zones rather than making each zone bigger. That can mean a second Santa or photo point, more food counters and a timed arrival window by department. An outdoor venue or large hotel lawn is usually the right base at this size.
Can food for both children and adults be included?
Yes, and it should be planned as two menus. Children need simple, familiar food served early at a low counter. Adults can have a fuller festive menu with live stations. Keep everything halal and alcohol-free, and label allergens clearly.
