Planning a corporate event? Purrple Orryx is a corporate event management company in Dubai: we plan and deliver family day events end to end.

The family day in office ideas that work best are short, zoned and built around what your company actually does: a guided floor tour with team demonstrations, a stamp trail for children, age-split workshops and a shared lunch, all inside three to four hours. Match the format to your floor space and your building's rules, and hold it between November and March, when Dubai's cooler weather lets you use a terrace or podium if you have one. An in-office day suits companies that want families to see where their parent or partner works, rather than spend a day at a resort. It costs less in travel time, needs fewer guests to feel full, and gives employees a reason to show pride in their workplace.

This guide covers in-office formats only. If you are planning a larger off-site day for 100 to 500 guests at a hotel, park or beach venue, our corporate family day service covers that format.

What family day ideas work inside an office?

The strongest ideas use the office itself as the attraction. Children are curious about the desk, the meeting room and the screens their parent talks about at home, so build the programme around that curiosity.

  • Department tour with demonstrations: each team hosts a ten-minute stop. Finance runs a pretend shop with play money, marketing lets children design a poster, IT shows how a laptop is built, operations explains a live dashboard.
  • Stamp passport: every child carries a card and collects a stamp at each stop, then swaps the full card for a small branded gift at the exit.
  • Junior boardroom: older children pitch a product idea to a panel of managers in a real meeting room, with a certificate for every team.
  • Age-split workshops: craft and storytelling for under-sixes, science or building challenges for ages six to eleven, and design, coding or short video making for teenagers.
  • Family photo corner: a branded backdrop in an open area or reception, with a photographer or a self-service booth.
  • Shared lunch and a thank-you moment: a short welcome from the leadership team, a two-minute video of what each department does, then lunch in the town hall or breakout area.
  • Quiet room: a calm space with books, colouring and low lighting for younger children, nursing parents and anyone who needs a break.

Splitting the programme by age works better than one activity for everyone, and offering a quieter, more manageable option helps neurodivergent children or those with social sensitivities enjoy the day too. Skill workshops that suit several ages, such as gardening, cooking or yoga, also work well for spouses and grandparents who come along.

Which format suits the size of your office?

The most common mistake is planning a whole-building programme for a single floor, or a single-floor programme for 200 people. Count employees likely to attend, multiply by the average family size you expect (often two to three guests per employee), and then pick the format that the space can hold without crowding desks and corridors.

Bigger set-ups need light production: a compact sound system for the welcome, a screen for the video, a small stage or riser, and roaming entertainers such as face painters, magicians or a science show. Our entertainment services cover acts that suit an indoor, office-height space.

When is the best time to hold an office family day in the UAE?

November to March is the most comfortable window, especially if you want to use an outdoor podium, terrace or car park area. Indoors, timing matters for other reasons.

  • Avoid school exam weeks and the start of term, when parents are least able to take children out of routine.
  • Choose a weekend morning when the office is quiet, or a school holiday weekday if teams can pause work for a few hours.
  • Run from around 10:00 to 14:00. Children tire after three to four hours, and lunch becomes the natural finale.
  • Check the Ramadan dates for that year. A lunch-led family day does not suit the holy month, and an iftar gathering is a different event with a different format.
  • Leave room around year-end and national holidays, when building management, caterers and entertainers are busiest.

Many global templates follow the US Bring Your Child to Work Day, which in 2025 fell on 24 April. That date often lands in rising heat and near school assessment periods here, so set your own date around the UAE calendar.

What does building management need to approve?

In most Dubai towers, business parks and free zone buildings, your company is a tenant, so the building's facilities management team has the final say on visitors, deliveries and set-up. Review your visitor policy early and send building management a short event note at least four weeks ahead. Cover these points:

  1. Visitor registration: how guests will be registered, whether children need passes, and whether a group list can replace individual sign-in at security.
  2. Arrival flow: lift capacity at peak arrival, a staggered arrival window, and a host in the lobby to guide families up.
  3. Fire safety: exits kept clear, maximum occupancy on your floor respected, and no props, balloons or décor that block corridors or could set off detectors.
  4. Set-up and breakdown: loading bay times, service lift booking, contractor access passes and any insurance documents the building asks suppliers for.
  5. Food: whether outside caterers can deliver, where food can be served, and rules on heating equipment in pantries.
  6. Noise and neighbours: other tenants on shared floors, especially if your welcome uses a microphone.
  7. Outdoor or temporary structures: if you plan to use a podium, car park or garden with a tent or inflatables, confirm with building management which further approvals apply before you commit.

Coordinating these approvals is part of what we handle when we produce a family day, so the HR team is not chasing security and suppliers in the final week.

How do you keep confidentiality and children safe on the floor?

An office is not designed for children, and it holds information that visitors should not see. Treat both as part of the plan, not an afterthought.

  • Clear desks and lock screens the evening before. Turn off dashboards showing client data, and remove whiteboards with sensitive notes.
  • Close secure areas such as server rooms, legal files and executive offices, and mark the tour route clearly.
  • Give each child a wristband with the parent's name and mobile number, and run a sign-in and sign-out point for children.
  • Keep the rule simple: every child stays with their own adult unless they are in a staffed workshop.
  • Place a first aid point and a trained first aider on each active floor, and cover sockets, cables and glass edges along the route.
  • Ask for allergy information at registration and label every dish.
  • Collect photo consent for children, and use a coloured lanyard for families who prefer not to be photographed.
  • Give teenagers simple posting guidelines if they film or share content during the day.

Set behaviour expectations in advance for both children and colleagues. A short email a week before, covering where to go, what is off-limits and what time things end, avoids most problems.

How do you include shift teams, remote staff and a multicultural workforce?

Dubai workforces combine many nationalities, languages and working patterns, and a family day that only suits head office staff can do more harm than good.

  • Cultures and faiths: serve halal food with clear labels and vegetarian options, keep a prayer space available, choose activities that do not depend on English, and use visual signage.
  • Shift and operations teams: run two sessions so both shifts can attend, or take a second version of the day to the warehouse or site, with transport for families if needed.
  • Remote and hybrid staff: stream the welcome and the junior boardroom, send activity kits home, or invite them to the nearest office.
  • Staff without children: invite partners, parents and friends, and give them roles as tour hosts or judges so they feel part of it.

FAQs

How far in advance should we plan an in-office family day?

Allow eight to ten weeks for a single-floor day and three to four months for a whole-building day in the November to March season, when entertainers, caterers and building approvals are in demand. Lock the date first, then send the building note and the staff invitation.

How long should an office family day last?

Three to four hours is right for most companies. A 10:00 start with lunch around 12:30 keeps younger children engaged and lets families leave before they tire.

What is included when an agency runs a family day at the office?

Typically concept and run of show, building management coordination, activity zones and workshops, entertainers, sound and screen, branding and signage, catering coordination, hosts and registration, photography, and set-up and breakdown outside working hours.

How does a family day benefit the company?

It shows families the people and place behind the long hours, builds pride among employees, and gives leadership a relaxed moment to thank staff and their families. It also helps new joiners feel part of the company faster.
